My daughter was in foster care and very happy there when we came along to adopt her. This is such a sobering post but such a good one. It really helps give perspective. Thank you,

WOW! Been away from the blog world for a few months and yours is the first one I went back to. This story, as hard as it must have been for you has shown once again Denise how much of a strong person you are. I have thought that for years sense I have known you. Even before we were overly close. And yo have opened my eyes to what to pay attention to when we do go adopt, and that if we are the monster in our future childs dreams, how to handle it. You really are an amazing person and mother!

Oh my goodness, how heartbreaking! But what a miracle breakthrough, though, huh? As tough as it must be to face, what a beautiful thing that you can face it together and work through it. When I read the line "I am the monster in my child's dreams," I gasped out loud. Literally.

Wow, Denise. Never thought of it this way. I'm VERY impressed that you were able to react as you did and encourage him to share. Had to be rough for you!

I know I was the monster in Molly's life at first (she never really had nightmares) but Carson...oh, my Little Man cried in his sleep for MONTHS. I sat patiently by his bed, rubbing his back, never dreaming of the reality that he wasn't crying about what he MISSED but about what was currently HAPPENING. Oh, my broken heart...

Thank you for this post. I don't think we realize sometimes by just sharing with others, how much of a help it can be. Makes me want to try and see things differently with my own child, not read into what is not there, but just be aware of what could be there.

What a heart-breaking story . . . . But it's good you're finally realizing what's going on so you can work on it together.

One thing-it DOES make you sad. And I think he'll be able to tell. Maybe let him know that what you're sad about is how your actions made him scared on that day, or something to that effect. Because if he believes that you are sad-he might believe you're mad or hurt too.
